Welcome to Aurora

Aurora has been in our family since 1917. Our grandmother built and opened the property in 1964, laying the foundation for Aurora and envisioning it as more than just a hotel, but a space to welcome both guests and residents of Merano.

Aurora was then passed to our mother, who transformed the space  that welcomed both locals and visitors. Over the years, artists, regular guests, and residents gathered naturally, creating a vibrant mosaic of creatives.

This bold spirit continues to define Auroratoday.

More than sixty years later, the keys have been passed to us. As third-generation owners, we are shaping a new iteration of Aurora – one that exists between contrasts: nature and city, locals and visitors, past and present. Aurora is where we were raised and where our ideas took shape, so we invite you to experience it through the lens of our travels, explorations, and family.

Aurora is a house of dialogue – between inside and outside, past and present, private and public. The renovated public spaces – designed by Hannes Peer and architecture by feld72 intentionally reflect our family across three generations. Today, Aurora is conceived as a living work of art: ever-changing through light, material, and perspective, while remaining deeply rooted in Merano.

Our Neighborhood

Aurora_Hannes0048-1

Aurora sits at a striking intersection of contrasts. On one side, the river flows quietly, but on the other, the city vibrantly unfolds, lined with cafés, galleries, and streets humming with Merano’s cultural rhythm. At the center is Aurora, quietly bridging nature, culture, and community.

Aurora Reimagined

The new exterior of Aurora reimagines the classic roof as a modern crown above our historic building. A delicate layer of aluminum fins wraps the façade, giving it a subtle, shimmering quality as you move around it. Depending on your perspective, it feels either solid or open—always shifting with the light and with Merano itself.

Restaurant Arté

Arté is Aurora’s restaurant, featuring an Art Deco space and a sun-filled terrace directly adjacent to Merano’s promenade. The seasonal menu by Chef Gennaro Santoro showcases the very best of the Merano region.

Lunch: 11:30–14:30
Dinner: 18:30–21:30

The restaurant is closed on Wednesdays and only open for dinner on Thursdays. It’s always open for drinks and snacks.
